Welcome to the Big Dance: “Who’s Not Now” begins tomorrow

Oh, the dog days of summer. We’ve reached Dead Week in sports, and like The World Wide Leader, it’s time for a corny and bizarre little self-created competition to pass some time.

Welcome to Who’s Not Now, a list of 16 athletes and figures from the sporting world who took the wrong paths in life and now must face humiliation on this blog. Just in the past year, Michael Vick got locked up, Tim Donaghy is on his way, Pacman Jones is trying to recover, Isiah Thomas can’t recover after destroyed the Knicks, and both Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens have crawled into a hole. (Well, Clemens tried hiding his past under an old television.)

Now, after a careful selection process that would put NCAA Selection Sunday to shame, here’s our Sweet Sixteen:

1. Barry Bonds
16. Danny Almonte

8. Brett Favre
9. Sammy Sosa

5. Isiah Thomas
12. Mike Tyson

4. Tim Donaghy
13. Alex Rodriguez

3. Michael Vick
14. Becky Hammon

6. Pacman “Adam” Jones
11. Steve Bartman

7. Barry Zito
10. Marion Jones

2. Roger Clemens
15. Matt Leinart

Beginning tomorrow at noon eastern, the polls will be open for our first match-up between Barry Bonds and Danny Almonte. TSC will weigh in our votes with unprecedented analysis.
