The Dagger Strikes here: We just got schooled
Who says getting called out is a bad thing?
In fact, maybe a recent bashing of The Sports Culture’s Erin Andrews coverage could serve as a real eye-opener in terms of where our eyes wander.
Yesterday, we were the centerpiece to The Dagger’s blog about how blogs are obsessed with Erin Andrews (yes, a little very ironic). Eamonn Brennan, who also seems like a decent gent himself, wasn’t too fond of our post on Friday about how Erin Andrews likes to sleep at night. (Note: Many other blogs picked up on our story, which was originally published in Sporting News Today.)
Was Photoshopping EA on a bed a little over the top? Probably. Is that how things work around here? Absolutely. But is the blogosphere overreacting? Depends how you look at it.
It goes without saying that Andrews has incredible looks and a professional on-air personality — both at elite levels in the network sideline reporter industry.
And obviously, sex sells. For the entire week after the ESPYs, we received a ridiculous amount of traffic from people searching for “Erin + Andrews + ESPYs,” which resulted in this post being our most ever visited. I’m not here to play the traffic game, but we’re supplying content mainly for 18- to 30-year-old males, and if Erin Andrews comes along lookin’ all good at the ESPYs, that’s how we’re gonna roll.
With that said, yes, I’ll agree in principal to what Brennan pinpoints in his blog. I’ve seen a few instances where blogs have stalker-esque, obsessive-compulsive coverage of Erin Andrews, but I don’t think for a second that we’ve reached that level.
His idea focuses on how a number of sports blogs have reached that level. But really, is there a way to gauge how much attention someone receives on the internet as over the top? Not really.
Like Brennan said, we’re enduring the dog days of summer. And we’re dogs.
