Artest is still ghetto; 1998 Fantasy Baseball thrives

With MLB trades coming more frequent this year than at a Pokemon convention, we’d like to overview what might be the biggest trade deadline in recent memory:

  • Despite reports last night that said the Manny-to-Florida three-way deal was all but approved by Big Bud, Jayson Stark reports that there’s a 50-50 shot at all three GMs actually pulling the trigger before the 4 p.m. deadline.
  • With Ivan Rodriguez (done), Ken Griffey Jr. (done), and Greg Maddux (almost) getting traded, this could also be the ultimate blockbuster year for Fantasy Baseball teams from 1998.
  • Different sport, same concept: Yao Ming unleashed some Shaq-esque remarks of his own yesterday regarding the Ron Artest deal to Houston. “Hopefully, he’s not fighting anymore and going after a guy in the stands,” Yao said, prompting Artest to reply by saying:
“I understand what Yao said, but I’m still ghetto,” Artest said, according to the report. “That’s not going to change. I’m never going to change my culture. Yao has played with a lot of black players, but I don’t think he’s ever played with a black player that really represents his culture as much as I represent my culture. Once Yao Ming gets to know me, he’ll understand what I’m about.”
