Booze: It’s 10 o’clock, where’s the keg at?
FROM THE BOOZE BUZZ: This video on CNN.com shows that beer distributors are taking some drastic measures to prevent theft of their kegs, including installing GPS systems. Sellers are trying to find a way to ward off thefts without raising deposits on the kegs.
The high price of scrap metal is driving thefts up–a single keg can fetch $30 or $40 when sold to a scrapper. If distributors are only requiring deposits of $20, the potential for profit is clear.
