Welcome to another installment of TSC’s Who’s Not Now. We’ve created the bracket of 16 athletes and figures of the sporting world who took the wrong paths in life and now must face humiliation on this blog. We’re breaking them down. You decide Who’s Not Now.
No. 7 Barry Zito, MLB pitcher vs. No. 10 Marion Jones, former Olympic runner
Why Zito is Not Now: Barry Zito has arguably the most wicked 12-to-6 curveball in baseball. For the past seven seasons he had more than 10 wins and averaged nearly 165 srikeouts per season. In his first 19 games this season, however, Zito had a 4-12 record, losing his first seven. Gone are the good ol’ days when he won the 2002 Cy Young Award with the Oakland A’s and made three all-star games. At the end of this past April, the Giants moved him to the bullpen to think about his shitty 2008 season. He didn’t make an appearance from the pen and returned to the rotation after a little more than a week, but his “punishment” didn’t make much of a difference. You’re so not now this season, Barry.
Why Jones is Not Now: Marion Jones is currently serving six months of jail time for
her involvement with steroids. She’s sitting on a toilet with no stall around it, trying to remember what the rubber track beneath her feet felt like when she won five medals in the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney, Australia. She’s also wondering how her ex boyfriend, Tim Montgomery – who also got busted in the BALKO doping scandal – is doing now that his four-year suspension is coming to an end. Don’t forget to flush, Marion.
TSC’s Pick: Marion Jones
