Conflict of interest much? The NCAA recruiting mess

Freshly squeezed OJ doesn’t seem to phase John Wall.

So let the juicy, corrupt mess of college basketball recruiting continue.

Wall, the nation’s No. 1 college basketball prospect, was coached/advised/guided in this summer’s AAU circuit by a guy who was a licensed sports agent just four months ago, according to CBS Sports.

Remember four months ago? The time when ESPN discovered that USC’s O.J. Mayo was milking some cash of his own and receiving numerous gifts in violation to NCAA rules?

Though the story of Wall is a nice one — he was cut from his high school team as a sophomore; now he’s a projected NBA lottery pick — the reality is that his recruitment has caused eyes to roll. Things are basically being run by a pair of brothers — D-One Sports patriarchs Brian and Dwon Clifton — and sources told CBSSports.com that some college coaches have been discouraged from contacting Wall or his mother directly.

The orders: Work through the Cliftons and only the Cliftons.

Could Wall make this any more obvious? Oh yes:

  1. Start selling John Wall t-shirts out of your dorm. Easy $20 a pop.
  2. Sign a shady deal with some joke show company, and during interviews, drop its name. “Yo, ya know, the 26 points were good and all, and I just credit these Dole bananas I eat each mornin.”
  3. Make your own line of hotdogs.
