Phelps is Tim Burton’s giant from Big Fish
Through careful scientific study and precise photo comparison, TSC reader Randy R. has come to the conclusion that USA Golden Boy Michael Phelps is actually the giant from Tim Burton’s film, Big Fish.
Some believed that Matthew McGrory was the one who took on the role of the big man. But McGrory passed away at 32 in 2005. Phelps is still around and well – eight gold medals reflects pretty good health. ThisĀ goatee mug is proof that the giant has yet to stray away.
Oh, but Phelps isn’t giant, you say. Yes, he is about 6-foot-4. But he’s got a giant heart and like huge giants like Paul Bunyan the one in Big Fish, Phelps is also a mystical creature – a tall tale, if you will.

You’re right. McGrory did indeed pass away in 2005. But, Big Fish was released in 2003. McGrory was in the film, and that’s a fact. Phelps is in no way, shape or form associated with Big Fish.
They both have, well in one case had, big feet too. Phelps is sz 14 and Matt McGrory was 29 1/2… 17 inches long or something. Biggest ever according to Guinness. Makes 14 sound small.
