Garnett and T-Mac’s Election Day shoes (wtf?)
Exclusive Pics: Commemorating a franchise’s 17th championships through some fly shoes was perfectly cool.
But now, adidas has rolled out… Election Day shoes? Kevin Garnett and Tracy McGrady will hype up Nov. 4 with a pair of customized fresh kicks. KG’s say: “Embrace Change, Vote ‘08” while T-Mac’s say: “Change is Needed, Vote ‘08.” Not that these show any political opinion towards one party — it’s great to encourage young people to vote — but there’s no reason for sports and politics to collide.
Next from the factory: An Amber Alert edition of shoes that displays names of missing 8-year-old girls.

The Election Shoes were made just for KG and T-Mac to wear and are designed to be a platform for both athletes to voice their concerns and emphasize the importance of voting. It is also a unique way for adidas to personalize performance products and have our athletes become more involved with the design process. Furthermore, it provides our players the opportunity to show fans another side and expose their personality and beliefs.

“…but there’s no reason for sports and politics to collide.”
Why not?
A lot of young people look up to these athletes. KG and T-Mac, though it may not be their intent, are showing people that NBA superstars aren’t just a bunch of super fit, over-paid, athletic machines; they have developed enough of an opinion for themselves to urge others to follow, to do something worthwhile.
The message these two are sending is fundamentally good. Why squash it?
“Not that these show any political opinion toward one party…”
Uh…OK
One candidate owns the word “change” but you’re right….it’s all about just voting
