When was the last time you heard the phrase “sloppy seconds” on SportsCenter?
Oh yeah, a few hours ago. As history’s Best Sports Year Ever, 2008, please keep a spot in your heart for Dallas Stars forward Sean Avery, who publicly called out his teammate for taking “sloppy seconds” from his ex-girlfriend . . . and got it aired on SportsCenter.
CBS Sports and Yahoo! didn’t feel it was necessary to publish “sloppy seconds.” Kudos to the World Wide Leader for growing some balls. It’s a statement that must lead the “NHL Yearbook 2008″ highlight reel.
Because up in Canada, you can say crazy shit like that without the douchebags FCC dudes.
Avery was punished indefinitely by commissioner Gary Bettman for using a crude term about his former girlfriends now dating other hockey players. Bettman acted within hours, in time to keep Avery out of the Dallas Stars‘ game against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.
“I’m really happy to be back in Calgary; I love Canada,” the Ontario native said. “I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about, but enjoy the game tonight.” He then walked out of the locker room.
If Elisha is in the “sloppy seconds” dept., Mr. Avery, I will gladly aceept her sloppiness, and even your thirds and fourths, just make sure they acn handle me.
