Hey, Roger Clemens:

(P.S.: Nice frosted tips)

After three-and-a-half weeks of intense bracketology and polling of our readers, we finally have a “Who’s Not Now?” winner. Let’s hope Clemens doesn’t misremember this defining point in his life.

Why Clemens is Not Now: Possibly the greatest pitcher of his era with a fair share of Cy Young Awards and Triple Crowns, Roger Clemens may have seen his last game. He’s a sure-fire hall-of-famer, but Clemens is in hot water right now. He was alleged by the Mitchell Report to have used anabolic steroids, though he’s denied it. Last April, the New York Daily News reported that Clemens had been, you know, doing country music star Mindy McCready. Then news broke that he’d been, you know, doing Paulette Dean Daly, pro golfer Jon Daly’s ex. Clemens also allegedly had an affair with a Manhattan bartender and a Detroit stripper. One thing is for sure, though. He’s not, you know, doing anything involving Major League Baseball.

Go inside for a full bracket to see how Clemens came out on top. (That’s what she said.)

Barry Bonds just wants to do another keg stand

Barry Bonds is a walking oxymoron.

The all-time MLB home run king graduated from Arizona State with a degree in criminology, and 22 years later, his legend is marked with an asterisk for being a criminal and illegally taking steroids, allegedly.

And even though he’s a season removed from playing in the Big Leagues and is an unofficial free agent — as well as a No. 1 seed and Final Four contestant in our “Who’s Not Now?” Tournament — Bonds said he still has a passion for the game and would love to get back into baseball. As a college baseball coach.

Several former MLB stars have gone on to coach college baseball, including Hall-of-Famer Tony Gwynn. But in Gwynn’s case, he was a legend who continued to be larger than life — literally and figuratively – in the town that he played in. The Giants will never likely have a statue for Bonds nor be named after a street or ball park.

Semifinals: Who’s Not Now?

August 5th, 2008 Reezy No comments

Our ‘Who’s Not Now’ summer special is finally winding down quicker than a slinky on a descending  escalator. Thank God. Now, four athletes remain — the top four seeds — and quite frankly, it’s anybody’s game, just like your 2008 NCAA Final Four: Part Deux.

Wow, after our first major upset yesterday — Donaghy upset Bonds — we’re off to our other semi-final matchup of Who’s Not Now.

No. 2 Roger Clemens vs. No. 3 Michael Vick. Vote, dammit!

Cue the Fox Saturday baseball Gene Zaleski voice: “Steroids! Gambling! Baseball! Hoop! Home Runs! Bad Calls! Jerks! D-bags! Next on FOX!

No. 1 Barry Bonds vs. No. 4 Tim Donaghy. Vote in the right-hand column. You know the drill like a fourth grade classroom during a fire alarm.
