Europe's newest 19 year old just got a whole lot richer
Brandon Jennings wanted to sign an endorsement deal with Under Armour.
Then two months later — to the day, even — Under Armour officially announced that the hoops star finally figured out how to compose a signature — something that probably would’ve boosted his SAT scores.
But you know what? That’s not the news. Nope, not even close.
The real news here is that Jennings will write a blog for Under Armour’s Web site. You read that correctly. He will write a blog. The kid who couldn’t scholastically qualify to play Division I basketball will write a blog.
It’s undoubtedly a huge blow to the sports blogging community that takes pride in its witty snark. Whereas now, our superior level of eloquent writing will include lines like: “Yoooo I been ballin’ up dis little italian dude… but itz all good feel me cuz me makes legit pasta son.”
Before we even begin to discuss how dope or funky these slotted shades — aka Shutter Shades – are, let us set the record straight as to who rocked them first. At the beginning of 2008, Kanye West used the shutter shades to help promote his summer Glow in the Dark Tour, then they became a big part of his concert. The rapper even had a reader send in a picture of a baby with a pair of the shades on, which Kanye posted on his blog.
But as Brandon Jennings proved at the McDonald’s All-American game with his Gumby hair cut, he’s very fashionably loud. So what better to go with the high flat top than a pair of Kanye-esc slotted shades?
It’s not like Jennings had to look very far to get them. You can get one white pair for $3.95 or a dozen white pairs of the slotted shades for $15. If you’re more into a name brand and more colors, Shutter Shades is your outlet.
But no matter where Jennings got his Shutters, one thing is for sure: just like Kanye, he’s an international icon now. Hair. Shades. Skills. He’s gonna shake the globe when his shoes come out. Don’t worry about the fact that he (and Kanye) probaby can’t see shit through them.

Here’s a video of Brandon Jennings speaking through an interpreter to the media in Rome. Though his interpreter did a great job (we think, hell we don’t really know) of getting Jennings’ point across to the media, she didn’t touch on what he really said. That’s where TSC comes into play. We cracked open up our Jennings-to-Reality dictionary and have decoded what he really said.
The reason why I chose to come here is because, you know, I wanted to develop. You know, a lot of kids who come overseas, they play, they’re always developing, they’re always ready. They always fit in, you know, in the NBA. So I feel like this is the perfect opportunity for me.
Translation: Since I couldn’t qualify academically to play Division I basketball for one of the elite programs in the nation, I had three options: Play junior college basketball, become a spokesman for McDonald’s or play overseas. With that in mind, it’s true that I will be playing professionally against some guys that will prepare me for the NBA.
I talked to Coach. He said come in and listen and he said they’ll teach me all the things to do.
TSC Intelligence has learned that Brandon Jennings may be signing a shoe contract with Under Armour in the near future. This would mark yet another first for the American basketball prep school star who bypassed the University of Arizona in favor of getting a big check in Italy.
Oh yeah, and then there was that whole thing about him having to take the SAT exam three times.
If Jennings signed with Under Armour — instead of Nike, Reebok or Adidas — it would definitely help put UA on the map, as it’s trying to establish more land and credibility worldwide through other products that don’t wick your sweat.
The funny thing is, however, that Under Armour has a footwear section on its American Web site, but there’s no such thing on it’s European site. Weird.
TSC thinks this would be a bold move by Jennings — the universal trend setter. What do you think about Jennings possibly signing with UA?
And in case you didn’t notice, the NBA is pretty hood, too. Though he’s not in the NBA yet, Europe-bound guard Brandon Jennings has picked up some gang signs of his own. TSC Investigators have decoded the signs so you know what they mean next time you see them.

If it has anything to do with the black world — and then some — Dr. Watkins probably has something to say about it, whether it’s good, bad or indifferent.
