Sarah Palin = Michael Fitzpatrick, kinda

Palin could probably take Fitz on in a game of basketball

Vice Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin is an educational whore, much like our friend and Red and Black sports editor Michael Fitzpatrick. Fitz has been to seven different schools in as many years, something that Palin nearly accomplished in college, when she attended six schools in six years.

This comparison has absolutely no relevance unless you think about luck of each individual:

  • Fitz jumped from gymnastics beat writer at Arizona to sports editor at Georgia within a few months. If Palin is this lucky, she could jump from governor to VP in the same timeframe.
  • Fitz was criticized on the national stage when he shocked the world with his preseason rankings by not putting his own school at No. 1, going against the entire Milky Way. Palin was criticized on the national stage when her 17-year-old daughter became pregos. Read more…

Fitz is the most unpopular kid at UGA right now

Only Fitz would have this kind of luck.

Michael Fitzpatrick, the sports editor of The Red and Black — the student newspaper for the University of Georgia — voted Georgia No. 2 in the UWIRE preseason football poll and picked Ohio State No. 1 in the nation. This is a shocker for two reasons: one, he attends Georgia and two, he was virtually the only person in the Milky Way to place Georgia in any spot besides the No. 1 spot. OK, he wasn’t completely alone, but you get the point.

Now, we know Fitz very well. A little too well, actually. We love to give him a hard time and tease him about the fact that he’s attended seven different schools in as many years and that his hair looks like an animal sitting on his head at times. And now we’ve got a buddy (Adam from UWIRE) to help treat Fitz like a human punching bag.

UWIRE — the college version of the Associated Press — has jumped on the Fitz bandwagon to question why he does what he does. Listen closely to the conversation. The UWIRE host takes a few jabs at Fitz, implying that he won’t have any sexual relations with any females during his tenure at UGA, which will last two semesters so that he can keep alive his trend of being an educational whore/transient.

UGA Baseball reps the red cups, Confederation

July 30th, 2008 Reezy 1 comment

Nothing makes us prouder than watching America embrace the Red Cup cultural phenomenon.

It happens everywhere; take your local college town “kick back” for instance. On any given Saturday night, apartment complexes and dorm rooms nationwide choose Big Red to support their late night fiestas.

So we salute you, University of Georgia baseball team, for your devotion and support in this edition of “Better Know An Athlete.”

Pictured with the Red Cup collection is former junior shortstop, Gordon Beckham, who was selected eighth overall in this year’s MLB draft by the Chicago White Sox. Beckham, photographed giving the “doggy sign,” was a finalist for the 2008 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award — and rightfully so.

However . . . what’s with the Confederate flag?

Who says kickers aren’t football team members?

July 29th, 2008 Fitz No comments

Sure, kickers and punters aren’t actually at a real risk of getting mauled by a 295-pound animal of a human being, but have you ever tried to kick a football accurately 50+ yards? It’s not easy.

But in this edition of TSC’s ”Better Know An Athlete” we turn our blinding spotlight on former Georgia punter Gordon Ely-Kelso, who used his punting skills to kick it with some hunnies at a tailgate before a NASCAR race in Charlotte, N.C.

Ely-Kelso may have gained a few pounds from his days as the ripped Bulldogs punter, but that has not prevented him from chillin’ with the ladies. And there are fewer things as hot as southern gals at a NASCAR race.

Hey Gordon, would you beat?
